Jibbs: All Grown Up

Interview by Sonja Campbell

SEFM: First of all we would like to thank you for the opportunity and your new video is a smash! The Dedication “Hey Dj” featuring Loyd so congrats on that, so give us a recap what have you been up to for the last 2 years?

JIBBS: Actually for the last two years I have been getting my priorities together and completing school, preparing my new album..I have over 100 songs recorded, new tempo new swagg and just experiencing life. I live on my own now maintaining it’s a whole new me.

SEFM:  Who are some of the artists you worked with on this new project?

JIBBS: Lil boosie, Pleasure P, Loyd which he is on the current single out now.

SEFM:  Do you currently have a date on when you project should drop?

JIBBS: No definite date as of yet, but we can say late summer.

SEFM:  How is current hip hop scene in St. Louis?

JIBBS: Well I have always believed that St. Louis has had a lot of talent, I have been all over the world and all over the country, and just comparing all of the talent overall, I think that St.Louis is one of the biggest places for raw talent and you will also hear a lot of the new talent being played on the radio and getting recognition.

SEFM:  Since you have been out here for awhile and you’re no longer a rookie….what do you feel that you are bringing to the game right now?

JIBBS: Well I feel like I am bringing a whole a new swagg that ain’t nobody seen yet or is doing..I’m a big fan of music myself so, I listen to a lot of music to try and stay away from what everybody is doing now so I think I’m definitely bringing a whole new look , new dress new swag to the game.

SEFM: Exactly, so do you feel that you have evolved and have changed a lot as an artist, or that your style has grown since you began?

JIBBS: Yea of course, I have a vision of what I want to do this year and with the album, I know the direction that I’m going in.

SEFM: Your music seems to be a lot more mature now, do you feel that’s the direction that you’re taking…not following in the “trends” of “dance music.”

JIBBS:  I do have some music that you can dance to like the “j walk”, but it still has a real music feel to it, but its definitely something you can feel and vibe to not just dance to.

SEFM: Ok, so outside of the music are there any other ventures outside of rapping that you are currently looking into?

JIBBS:  Of course, being a songwriter and producer, I write r&b songs and hip hop, so you will definitely hearing more from me in the coming year, may break off into the movie scene as well. And you may be hearing about a clothing line in the near future.

SEFM: Are you currently on tour right now?

JIBBS:  Yeah I’m on promo right now, and doing spot dates in every city, doing radio…stopping through the Boys and Girls clubs, different high school and more to come this summer.

SEFM: So any advice to the younger hip hop listeners out there who say they may want to follow in your foot steps or be like Jibbs?

JIBBS: First and foremost I would say stay in school to always have something to fall back on. Before I could be signed I had to make that my grades were straight. School could be distraction if I couldn’t focus early on. And to grind to get what you want don’t wait on no one. And stay focused, and I’ll see them at the top.

SEFM: We want to commend you on being a positive voice in hip hop, and at the end of the day, what would you want our readers to go away with knowing about JIBBS?

JIBBS:  Well I would want to them to know, that it’s bigger than music to me, I have been doing this for a while, I have my own label and production team, I’m growing into being young mogul. I take what I do seriously, I start from scratch in the creative process with my music and what I do comes from my heart.
